The newly graduated Airmen left from Halifax, Nova Scotia aboard the Empress of Scotland ( renamed from Empress of Japan, once Japan joined the war.) Seven days later, they were at Liverpool. For many, this would be their first trip overseas, and also their first trip via such a large ocean going vessel.
