Commission in memory of Pilot Officer George Adrian Nobel. Certificate

George Adrian Noble is the son of George Ferguson Noble and Olive Alma Noble, of Port Washington, British Columbia. He attended No. 3 B&G School at McDonald Manitoba and joined the Brand Crew with Squadron 420. His plane was shot down by a night fighter in an operation on Hanover, Germany.

Ops Report Jan 5/6, 1945 Hanover

133 Halifaxes from 408, 415, 420, 424, 425, 426, 427, 429, 432, and 433 squadrons were joined by 57 Lancasters from 419, 428, 431, and 434 squadrons on an attack at Hannover. The crews were over the target at between 18,000 to 20,000 feet, releasing 1,587,000 lbs of high explosives. According to reports, bombing was scattered through out the city.

Lost Bomber Report

"Serial Range MZ447 - MZ495. 49 Halifax Mk.111, part of a batch of 180 HP61 Halifax Mk.B delivered by the London Aircraft Production Group (Leavesden) between 25Sep44 and 20Nov44. MZ471 was delivered to No.420 Sqdn, ex-works, 24Oct44. Airborne 1639 5Jan45 from Tholthorpe. Reported shot down by a night- fighter. Crash-site not established. Those killed in the crash are buried in Hannover War Cemetery, while F/S Noble is buried in the Durnbach War Cemetery, his death being reported on 20Jan45. Apparently, despite being gravely wounded, he tried to evade capture but was picked up at Osterwald and taken to Res Lazarett W at Hannover. He was then transferred to Hohemark (Oberursel) where he died from his wounds. P/O Walker had flown 28 operations, the others seven, except for the pilot and F/S Palmer who had each completed eight.
